Puilaetco,
hoofdpartner

For the second episode of our “Partner Perspectives” series, we sit down with Sophie Clauwaert, Director & Art Advisor at Puilaetco, a partner of the fair since its very first edition. She tells us about the Puilaetco Discovery Tours and shares her view on our partnership as we head towards the 4th edition.

In collaboration with ceramic brussels, you took the initiative to organise the "Puilaetco Discovery Tours". Why offer these guided tours during the fair, and how do you organise them?

SC Contemporary ceramics is a fascinating medium, but it is still sometimes little known to the general public. Faced with a fair bringing together dozens of international galleries and artists, it isn't always easy to know where to begin.

The "Puilaetco Discovery Tours" were born from a simple conviction: art becomes even more captivating when you have a few keys to understanding it. The aim is not to steer visitors towards what they should like, but to help them develop their own eye by better understanding the techniques, the artists' paths and the stories behind the works.

These tours take the form of privileged exchanges with specialists from the sector. They also reflect Puilaetco's philosophy: accompanying our clients in their discoveries, creating enriching experiences and encouraging encounters with key players in the art world.

What connects contemporary ceramics and private banking?

SC At first glance, the two worlds seem far apart. Yet they share several core values: transmission, a long-term vision and attention to what holds meaning over time.

Contemporary ceramics is particularly interesting because it combines ancestral craftsmanship with a deeply contemporary creativity. This blend of tradition and innovation echoes Puilaetco's own identity, which draws on a heritage spanning several generations while remaining focused on the future.

Our clients are not only interested in the value of a work. They want to understand the artist, their creative process and the context in which the work came to life. Art sparks conversations, encounters and sometimes even passions that are passed down within families. It is precisely this human dimension that interests us.

How do you view this partnership today, as the fair approaches its 4th edition?

SC When we chose to support ceramic brussels from its very first edition in 2024, we above all embraced an ambitious vision: making Brussels a must-visit destination for contemporary ceramics.

Four editions later, that vision has become a reality. The fair now attracts leading international galleries, collectors, institutions and an ever-growing public. It actively contributes to Brussels' cultural influence and to the recognition of ceramics as one of the most dynamic mediums in contemporary art.

What pleases me most, however, is not only its success or growth. It is the community that has formed around the fair. Every year, artists, gallerists, collectors, curators and art lovers come together there to exchange ideas and share their passion.

For Puilaetco, being a partner in this adventure means supporting not only a major event on the Belgian art scene, but also a creative ecosystem in full evolution, whose development we are proud to accompany.
