La Cambre celebrates its centenary at the heart of ceramic brussels! For this 4th edition, the prestigious Brussels art school takes over the fair with a unique, cross-disciplinary project. From artistic ceramic furniture designed by its alumni to live printing demonstrations with the Letterrestres project, discover how a new generation of artists is pushing boundaries and reshaping the medium.

Letterrestres: a live printing workshop by La Cambre

The Letterrestres project celebrates a new generation of artists who are pushing boundaries and reshaping ceramics as a medium.

At the fair, La Cambre's booth invites visitors to gather around the school's archives, seated on stools, chairs and benches made by alumni of the ceramics workshop. Each piece uses a different technique, reflecting the diversity of practices and personal worlds of this new generation.

From these seats, visitors can watch live printing demonstrations on an old press fitted with ceramic type. They are the result of a collaboration between La Cambre's ceramics and typography workshops, both part of the school since its founding by Henry van de Velde in 1927.

The project revisits movable type through the technique developed by Bi Sheng in China around 1045. His clay characters were the very first movable type, four centuries before Gutenberg brought printing to the West.
