Léonore Chastagner

Between studying art history at the École du Louvre, then at New York University and the Villa Arson—where she began working with sculpture—Léonore developed a vocabulary of figurative forms centered around notions of intimacy, interiority, and tenderness. She keeps the clay raw and embraces an artisanal practice, pushing it to the edge of ethnographic observation, focusing on softness, detail, and the familiar.
“Ceramics, for me, are the material of archaeological excavations—of evidence, trace, and permanence. They allow me to anchor the everyday in time”.
The artist connects feminism with a reflection on art history, artefacts, and museum display. She also incorporates personal elements, echoing practices such as diary writing and miniatures, historically associated with women.
Léonore Chastagner is the winner of the ceramic brussels jury prize 2025. She was chosen among the 10 laureates and has won the opportunity to exhibit his work during ceramic brussels 2026.
