Galeri NEV
Founded in 1984 in Ankara, Galeri Nev has presented more than three hundred exhibitions over the last forty years. Initially centered around Turkey’s ‘early modernists’ the gallery’s program gradually expanded to include artists from all subsequent generations, including the youngest. In the last decade, the gallery has dedicated particular emphasis on the practices of the artist women in its cohort and researched the effects of generational intersections, in addition to the convergence of different media and the influence of various exhibition spaces. These spaces dissipated to various hubs around the world with the gallery's participation in international fairs such as Frieze New York, The Armory Show, Photo London, and Paris Internationale. Additionally, Galeri Nev has amplified its presence in Turkey beyond Ankara through its annual ‘ephemeral’ exhibitions in Istanbul, deliberatly taking place at a different venue each time. Last year, the gallery continued its tradition of publishing art books, keeping its long-standing open-access library, and curating exhibitions that draw from both its own forty-year history and Turkey’s exceptional artistic productions and experiences. The year 2024 became a celebration of both Galeri Nev’s legacy and the broader history of art in Turkey.
